Americans were everywhere in Paris, discussing facebook and commenting on Hello Kitty shop windows. Streets were lined with McDonald’s and Starbucks right alongside boulangeries and cafés. We resolved, however, to stay French that first night, and stepped into a brasserie called l’Elephant du Nil, where we sampled the first of many delicious French desserts.
